Roughly the size of a postcard, this series was inspired by the wistful nostalgia of summertime and the strange experience of missing my mom, a person I see almost every single day, as early-onset Alzheimer’s disease pulls her farther into a fog. I find myself wishing she were here in the way she was my whole life: a quiet force of resilience, self-sufficiency, fierce joy, and unconditional love. But despite this wish, my love and respect for my mom has deepened and grown through our reversal of caregiving roles.
By contrasting the static nature of the text with the dynamic growth of coral and fungal systems, this series highlights the duality of my experience caring for my mom in her illness. Even within a deep longing for the past there is room for growth, change, and finding beauty in the spaces between.
These wall hanging tiles have a hidden single hole that allows you to hang them on a single nail or anchored screw. Each detail is lovingly hand sculpted, and the glazes I've chosen give the pieces a dreamy, ethereal quality.
